Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to the Marblehead Public Schools. Our faculty, staff and administration feel honored to serve the families of the Marblehead Community. Our Curriculum and Instructional programs focus on the whole child. Educating our children is more than reading, writing and arithmetic, although this is where we start and also where we shine. The arts, world cultures, languages, fitness and athletics, along with creative uses of technology, enrich the educational experience of our children. Marblehead Public Schools believe that "literacy and creativity" are equally important.

What sets the Marblehead Public Schools experience apart from others in Massachusetts is our focus on preparing all of our students to become innovators and critical thinkers. Our students' skills as creative and innovative thinkers will propel them to success in the classroom as well as secure for them the opportunity for success in the ever changing global environment they will soon enter. Please "click" on the link to the left labeled "Did You Know" for information on the global changes our students will soon encounter.

Our children are facing a different world; one that continues to rapidly change. Today, it is not one's nationality, or where one may live that will be the predictor of success; it is what you know and your ability to adapt, think, innovate and create that matters. Thomas Friedman in his book "The World Is Flat" describes this new world. Bill Gates expresses the aforementioned new world environment in the following quote from Friedman's book. Gates says:
"Thirty years ago, if you had a choice between being born a genius on the outskirts of Bombay or Shanghai or being born an average person in Poughkeepsie, you would take Poughkeepsie because your chances of thriving and living a decent life there, even with average talent, were much greater. But as the world has gone flat, and so many people can now plug in and play from anywhere, natural talent has started to trump geography. Now, I would rather be a genius born in China than an average guy born in Poughkeepsie... We're going to tap into the energy and talent of five times as many people as we did before."

Although there remain solid reasons for us all to want to live in the United States and preferably in Marblehead, our students must understand the world discussed above and more importantly, prepare for their ultimate entry into it. Please "click" on the link to the left entitled "Sir Ken Robinson", to hear his thoughts on this subject, as well as his views on creativity, philosophy and a child's need to think and be innovative.

Higher Student Achievement is the goal of the Marblehead Public Schools. We will strive to provide quality instruction for your children. Our wonderful teachers will continue to dedicate themselves to their craft and to your children's educational achievement.

It's an exciting time to be a young person, and perhaps even more exciting to be the teacher and mentor of these young people. I believe we in Marblehead will take seriously our responsibility to prepare our young people for success as global citizens, innovators and thinkers. My hope is that the Marblehead Public Schools will be second to none in preparing our students for success in the real world they will soon encounter. We need your help to accomplish our goals. Marblehead is renowned for its generosity of spirit and its ability to share its resources with the schools. Volunteerism and parent involvement in our schools are at high levels. We thank you and humbly request that you continue in these efforts. You may call me at 781-639-3141 or email me at any time.(email address can be obtained by clicking on link above that says DIRECTORY). We are proud to teach the children of the Marblehead Community.

Respectfully,
Dr. G. Paul Dulac
Superintendent of Schools
