Superintendent Search Completed

The school committee met in open session on Monday, November 20, at 8:15PM in the MHS library to continue its discussions regarding the superintendent search.

Dr. Dulac's Marblehead site visit on Thursday, November 16, gave the individual school committee members an opportunity to discuss educational issues with Dr. Dulac one-on-one, as well as provide forums for the district educators, students, parents and community members to meet Dr. Dulac and ask questions. The site visit culminated in a televised school committee interview during its posted Thursday night meeting.

Monday (November 20) night's meeting was an opportunity for school committee members to hear their fellow members' thoughts about the candidates and the status of the search itself. As members discussed their due diligence inquiries regarding Dr. Dulac, it became apparent that there was overwhelming support for Dr. Dulac as a highly qualified candidate who possesses extensive experience as a superintendent in both Massachusetts and the international realm with a proven track record of success as a respected educational leader. Of further interest to the committee was Dr. Dulac and his wife's expressed desire to live in Marblehead in order to become integral parts of the town's fabric.

When the committee was satisfied that it had discussed all matters of concern, a motion was made as follows: that G. Paul Dulac, Ed.D., be appointed to the position of Superintendent of Schools effective July 1, 2007, until June 30, 2010, contingent upon the negotiations of a mutually acceptable contract of employment to be negotiated with the chairperson or designee of the School Committee. The motion was seconded and the committee voted unanimously in the affirmative. (Note: contract negotiations were completed on Tuesday, November 21, 2006. Dr. Dulac's salary will be $162,000.)

The school committee wishes to thank the community for its interest and participation in the twelve-month superintendent search process. Also of note is the school committee's continuing appreciation for Philip Devaux, Ed.D. and the solid leadership that he will provide as superintendent through the end of this school year.
