MARBLEnet, located in the Marblehead High School, is a full service Internet Provider for the Marblehead Public Schools. MARBLEnet is managed by the Technology Department of the Marblehead Public Schools and operated by the student-run company, Marble Solutions. The intent of MARBLEnet is to provide students with access to the Internet and other network services to prepare them to fully function in an information based society. Marble Solutions gives students an opportunity to experience "real world" web development and management skills through offering free web page services to school employees and companies located in Marblehead. MARBLEnet also intends to provide Internet service, through the use of the Marblehead WAN, to other town agencies reducing the costs of Internet service for the town as a whole.
All users of MARBLEnet are required to know and follow the guidelines and terms set forth in this acceptable usage policy. All users will be required to sign an application acknowledging that they have read and understand the policies set forth in this document. Students under the age of 18 will be required to have their parent or legal guardian also sign this application. If any person fails to adhere to these policies his/her account will be terminated immediately. The Technology Department at Marblehead Public Schools reserves the right to change these policies at any time without notification.
Internet Access is a privilege and not a right. Your Internet account(s) at MARBLEnet will be terminated and your actions will be referred to the appropriate authorities for any of the following violations:
If you are aware of an individual failing to comply with any of the policies set forth in this document, you are required to notify the Technology Department or the Superintendent as soon as possible. Failure to contact the Technology Department or the Superintendent within 72 hours will result in loss of your own personal account for a period of time deemed appropriate by the Director of Technology and the Superintendent.
All users are held accountable for their actions while using their Internet account. For this reason all users are assigned a unique username (login) and password. Do not , under any circumstances, share your password with any other individual. Any users found sharing their password will have their accounts immediately terminated. The owner of the account is held responsible for any actions taken with his or her account. If you believe someone may know your password, you should immediately request a new password from the Technology Department.
All users have the right to privacy of their own files and this privacy will be enforced to the best of the abilities of the Technology Department. Due to the large number of users and variable security on the Internet; the Technology Department, Marble Solutions, and the Marblehead Public Schools do not guarantee the privacy or safety of any personal files stored on our systems.
Internet access is provided in each of our public schools for educational use exclusively. This access includes the World Wide Web, live and text based chatting, newsgroups, social networks and other Internet utilities. Before students may obtain any form of Internet access, they must first sign the student agreement form acknowledging that they have read and understand the policies set forth in this document. If the student is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must also sign the agreement form.
E-mail accounts will be provided to students whose class work specifically requires the use of an e-mail account. At the completion of the class the student's e-mail account will be terminated.
Access to the Internet is a privilege and not a right. If any student is found using the Internet for non-educational purposes, the student will be warned. Any further inappropriate uses of the Internet after being warned will be cause for loss of privileges for the remainder of the school year or a period of time deemed fit by the school's principal and the Director of Technology.
Internet access is provided in each of our public schools for educational use exclusively. Before employees of the Marblehead Public Schools may access the Internet, they must first sign the employee application demonstrating that they have read and understand the policies set forth in this document.
While employees are using their accounts on public school grounds, they must restrict their use to educational use only.
Employees may also obtain dial-in access to MARBLEnet from home. When accessing MARBLEnet from home employees are responsible for their personal account. If employees choose to allow their children or spouse to use their account, it is the employee that is held responsible for all activities performed on that account. It is the employees' responsibility to monitor the use of their Internet account at home at all times.
MARBLEnet is registered as marblehead.com, the site for the town of Marblehead. MARBLEnet provides free web page storage services to all town agencies, companies located in Marblehead, and companies owned by employees of the Marblehead Public Schools. Storage space on our web server is regulated by the Technology Department of the Marblehead Public Schools and Marble Solutions. Web page development services are also provided to town agencies and local companies by Marble Solutions.
Marble Solutions is the student run web page development company located in the Marblehead High School. This group is advised by the Director of Technology for Marblehead Public Schools. As webmasters, the members of Marble Solutions may require dial-in access from home to facilitate communication with their customer base, as well as, to maintain the content on the town's web site. For these reasons the members of Marble Solutions are afforded special privileges in that they may obtain e-mail, dial-in, and other accounts as deemed necessary by the Director of Technology. These students will retain these accounts as long as they are still affiliated with Marble Solutions.
These students will be required to sign the student agreement form and if they are under the age of 18 a parent or legal guardian must also sign this agreement.
MARBLEnet intends to provide access to the Internet for the Charter School, Abbot Library, and any other Town departments that wish to join the Marblehead WAN. It is the responsibility of each of these institutions to maintain their own servers including e-mail. It is also the responsibility of each of these institutions to maintain their own acceptable usage policies that do not conflict with the policies set forth in this document.
Any of these institutions may also take full advantage of the free web services provided by MARBLEnet and Marble Solutions as described in this document.
